Humanities: Key Stage 3

Welcome to the humanities department; at Beacon Hill we deliver a combined humanities programme consisting of geography, history and RE.

Our aim is to inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world in which we live.

At Key Stage 3 (years 7 & 8) students are taught in 'Stage not Age' groups.  Students have 5 fifty minute lessons each week as part of their Stage not Age curriculum.

Links between the three subjects are identified and embraced in the amalgamated humanities programme of study.

One year of the SNA humanities curriculum focuses on the world we live in.  The second year is based on the island we inhabit. Within the third year we study British life in the early 20th century.

RE in years 7 & 8 is taught largely through activity days developing an understanding of world religions and celebrating cultural similarities and differences.

In Key Stage 3 some of our work is based in the classroom but we also provide opportunities for field work in the local environment and in the Lake District.  We aim to foster an understanding and appreciation of the outstanding area which surrounds us.
